How We Started
The Lehigh Valley Association of Independent Colleges was founded in 1969 by the presidents of Cedar Crest College, DeSales University, Lafayette College, Lehigh University, Moravian College, and Muhlenberg College. Since that time, LVAIC has grown, expanded, and developed its presence and offerings in the Lehigh Valley to make its members stronger and more distinctive through the efforts of collaboration.
50 Years of LVAIC
Leveraging our Past: As we reflect on the last 50 years of collaborative work, we recognize the many successes we celebrate. When the presidents of Cedar Crest College, DeSales University, Lafayette College, Lehigh University, Moravian University, and Muhlenberg College gathered in 1969 to share resources and expand programming, they focused on nurturing academic research and professional development for faculty and staff and expand educational options for students.
To commemorate 50 years of collaboration, the LVAIC launched a year-long learning series for our campuses. As a community, we explored key topics relating to the shifting landscape of higher education. This program combined speaker events, study groups, and workshops to promote understanding of the impact of this changing environment. Navigating these opportunities together prepared us for active participation in meeting these challenges on our campuses.
Our Major Programs and Initiatives Over the Years
All of these programs have aided the consortium in impacting campus goals and initiatives to further the mission and vision of LVAIC. With more programs and initiatives being added each year, LVAIC’s overall imprint continues to grow. As the changing landscape of higher education lies ahead for all members of the LVAIC community, collaboration and sharing resources to maximize opportunities will surely set the Lehigh Valley apart from its peers.
