Some Benefits of Yoga:

Balance

“Physically, balancing teaches us to tap into the deep muscles that coordinate the separate parts of the body into an integrated whole. Mentally and emotionally, working on our balance helps us develop a keener focus as well as the ability to keep an even keel despite the inevitable wobbles that arise in life” (Land, 2019).

Strength

“When we practice yoga poses we involve the whole body, rather than trying to isolate specific muscles – like when using fixed gym machines. We recruit other muscle groups to act as stabilizers, as well as the muscles where the main action takes place. Yoga can be a great form of functional strength training. Meaning building strength in the whole body so that it can perform daily activities in the real world, not just lifting a certain amount of weight” (Savage 2018 ).

Stress Reduction

“Stress demands all of our energy. When our batteries are so depleted, we can’t deal, and anything can push us over the edge. It’s like being stuck in semi-panic mode, where there is very little exhale, and the neck, head, and shoulders are likely to be tense. Yoga gives us tools to cope” (Saidman Yee 2016)

Inner Calm

“If you can stay aware of your mind’s thoughts and reactions, the outward chaos loses its power over you. This is an aspect of true freedom: unwavering peace despite the conditions of the world. This is the practice of Yoga” (Rosewood 2008).
