Non-Tenure-Line Faculty Virtual Networking Event Copy

September 18, 2020 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

All LVAIC non-tenure-line faculty are invited to attend a virtual networking event to kick off the community of practice for the 2020-21 academic year. Instructors will connect with individuals within and outside of their schools and disciplines. They will also be provided with an overview of the community of practice and events for the year and have the opportunity to sign-up for various teaching development initiatives.

Register below by September 15.

Upcoming opportunities

Teaching Squares Program. Register by September 25.
The goals of the program are multifold and include: observing other methods of teaching, reflecting on individual teaching practices, and building community with other faculty. By visiting the virtual classrooms of your colleagues, you will have the opportunity to observe various teaching contexts, and view approaches that you may not have seen previously. Your observations will help you reflect on your own teaching practices. During the program, you may meet faculty with whom you have never interacted, strengthening your connections with the LVAIC Non-Tenure-Line Faculty Community of Practice. The core of the Teaching Squares philosophy is personal reflection rather than evaluation. Observers should only provide feedback if it is desired by observees. The most significant element is taking a deeper look at your own teaching during the semester. Participants will receive a certificate upon completion of the program. Please note that due to covid-related restrictions, we can only accommodate online and HyFlex classes. Teaching fully asynchronously? Please consult with us.
Questions? Contact Mark Sciutto (marksciutto@muhlenberg.edu) or Manuela Borzone (borzonem@lafayette.edu).
Virtual Community Read. Register by September 25.

College is changing, but the way we train academics is not. David Gooblar’s The Missing Course: Everything The Never Taught You about College Teaching offers scholars at all levels a field guide to the state of the art in teaching and learning and is packed with invaluable insights to help students learn in any discipline. Join us and connect with members of the LVAIC Non-Tenure-Line Faculty Community of Practice around the topics of teaching and learning. Share ways you can apply these lessons into your own teaching and find out what other faculty do in their classes. Come together around a shared passion and increase your sense of belonging during these challenging times of physical distancing and virtual learning. Check with your library or purchase the book from your local bookstore. Starts October 1.

LinkedIn Group

We are on LinkedIn! Request to join our dedicated LinkedIn group for the LVAIC Non-Tenure-Line Faculty Community of Practice, where you will be able to connect with other instructors, find out about upcoming events, and grow your professional network.

LVRC

LVRC serves as a connection point among faculty members of multiple institutions that may share similar research interests with no vehicles for collaboration on local projects. University participation in local issues also creates possibilities for community members to build relations with faculty and participate in LVRC events held on local college campuses, while also providing opportunities for academics to get involved in community agencies and events. Find out about research funding opportunities available to you by visiting their website.
