High school counselors from all over the United States join in front of the Lehigh University Admissions building on the last day of their visit to the Lehigh Valley for the 2018 Lehigh Valley Counselors Tour.

Each spring, this popular LVAIC program showcases the Lehigh Valley region and five of Pennsylvania’s nationally recognized private colleges and universities to approximately 100 school counselors and independent educational consultants from across the nation. This program has been in existence for over 35 years.

The three-day tour is coordinated directly with the Undergraduate Admissions offices at Cedar Crest College, Lafayette College, Lehigh University, Moravian College, and Muhlenberg College.  Counselors spend a half day experiencing each campus, meeting with students, faculty, and administrators, and discovering the distinctive offerings of LVAIC’s liberal arts colleges.

In addition to seeing firsthand the distinctive strengths of each individual campus, counselors learn about college life in the Lehigh Valley, the value of the liberal arts experience, and the expanded student opportunities offered through the consortium.  The Lehigh Valley tour is lauded by the National Association of College Admissions Counselors as one of the most respected in the country.

Counselors arrive on a Sunday evening for a networking and welcome reception with representatives from each Admissions Office. Monday through Wednesday, they embark on tours of each campus. Campus visits include tours, information sessions with faculty, staff, and students, and breakout sessions on different topics specific to each school. Monday evening is concluded with a panel discussion with vice presidents from each campus regarding different “hot topics” in higher education.

This program exhibits the true nature of collaboration, bringing together the resources of 5 colleges and universities to boast of each campus’s individual and unique successes. The camaraderie shared by the Admissions Offices of each schools allows this annual production to successfully yield students to the Lehigh Valley each year.
