January 16, 2017, @ 8:00 AM
The 16th annual Lehigh Valley Collegiate Career Expo is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 from 12pm-4pm at the Holiday Inn Conference Center in Breinigsville. This event is a collaborative effort among 13 area campuses to pull resources, share expertise, and maximize student opportunities. Employers hiring for entry-level, full-time, part-time, internship, and co-op opportunities have the opportunity to recruit at the region’s largest career fair.
This fair hosts over 125 employers and 500-600 students each year. Students of LVAIC member and participating campuses participate at no cost. Professional dress and a resume are required for entry to the fair. Students can preview preparatory resources on the LVCCE website. “LVCCE was an eye-opening experience for me,” explained an attendee from the 2016 LVCCE. “It gave me a real feel for what opportunities are out there, anything from a full-time job to a part-time internship. It allowed me to meet with potential employers and build essential interviewing skills…Within 2-3 weeks, I was in contact with about a half dozen employers…I landed several phone interviews and two in-person interviews…I would call the whole thing a success because it really helped prepare me for the future. I would definitely recommend all students to go…It is just an added bonus that you get to work on your interviewing skills, and who knows, maybe you will land a position.”
For recruiting employers, this is an opportunity to access 13 unique colleges and universities in one day. “We definitely attempt to have employers from all different industries across the board, because each of the 13 schools have such differing majors,” explained Jenelle Henry, Assistant Director of the Career Development Center at Kutztown University and co-chair of the LVCCE planning committee. Major employers attending this year’s fair include ArtsQuest, B. Braun Medical Inc., Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority, Lutron Electronics, Olympus Corporation of the Americas, PPL Corporation, St. Luke’s University Health Network, and Victaulic.
On top of recruiting at the fair, employers have several sponsorship opportunities to further reach participating students. This year’s sponsors include Enterprise, Event Sponsor; Wells Fargo, Platinum Sponsor; Allied, PPL, and Harbortouch, Gold Sponsors; and Brown and Brown, Catch-a-Break Sponsor.
